on the radio

Last night the Gorean Portal Radio sent live from the City of Corcyrus. So after my boys were all to bed, I went over there and listened and watched for a while. The moderator was full of praise for the beauty of the city, which made me a bit proud, even if my name wasn't mentioned.

The chat was fun, the music nice: Disney-tunes. (Disney... Gor... get it?) Girls dancing... well, "girls" is relative, as according to their movie-experience ("Oh, I remember the day "Bambi" came out! I was at the opening with my parents!" - Bambi was released 1942!) each of them was older than me, but hey! Girls will be girls, and boys will be boys, and in SL everyone can be what he wants to be. (And if I were straight, I'd prefer a "girl" with experience. Those "older girls", who I know in SL are much cooler and less bitchy than the twens.)

I took a picture. Not my best ones, but gives an impression of the evening.

The only sad thing: Apart from the head-scribe I didn't know ANYONE there. It's a strange feeling to come to the city that you built, and most people won't even recognize you anymore and ask "And who are YOU?"...

A day at the market

This was last saturday at the market in Tabor (Fields). I just came home from RL-work and when I logged in I had to realize, that River had parked my AV (yeah, he has my password) in the middle of the marketstalls. Well, at least I wasn't naked! :-)
However, I more or less was forced to immediately RP, but it was fun. I cleaned up the chatlog, as there were a lot of communications/RPs crossing each other...
I enjoyed it, and it was a good example for using the NLS. Of course I could buy a barrel of salt for 10 TS from someone who was just camping his AV at a spawner in one of the gathering patches. I see people offering goods way too cheap and without any prove or realistic reason how they got it IC. It's frustrating and annoying. And if it doesn't get better, we will give up on the NLS and only use it for our personal needs.
As you see: I'd paid 75 TS for a barrel of salt and I did it with joy, as it was fun to haggle and RP. I just wished, people would become insightful enough, that this is it all about!

****

Josh: "Greetings, Master. Klima is using new price, Master!"
Josh shouts "Master Franzi endorses Klima salt!" and points to Master at market stand.
The baker shouts: "Pies! Pies! We've got Larma, strawberry and cherry! Fresh chocolate cookies! Bread! Fresh baked by the loaf or just get a slice to tide you over until you can sit down to a meal!"
Josh shouts: "Salt to put on the bread! Bread tastes good with some extra salt!"
Josh whispers: "Don't push in line everybody, please, one at a time..."
Malex walks over to the gathered crowd to see the Klima-boy and his salt
Josh smiles to see Malex come up.
Franziskus Ninetails wakes up from his little... his DEEP nap behind the marketstalls, wondering how he came here and if his slaves have carried him on a cart to the market. He mumbles to himself "I never touch paga again!", but then looks around for some new barrels to fill his stocks.
Franziskus Ninetails blinks at the gatherd crowd of merchants and their slaves and nods to some.
Malex looks up at the barrel of salt not ever having seen so much and reaches up to taste it.
Franziskus Ninetails looks around and finds most marketstalls already empy. "Hmmm, seems trades were running good!". His eyes searching especially for barrels and salt as his stocks seemed to emptied the last days mysterioulsy.
Franziskus Ninetails recognizes the boy from Klima and smiles to him "Tal, boy. You came a long way from the desert!"
Josh: "Greetings, Master! Aye, but wouldn't miss market day!"
Franziskus Ninetails looks what the boy has to offer. He wets his little finger and dips it into the salt, then licks it. He nods "Hmmm, not bad! How much for the salt, boy?"
Josh: "Only 1 Copper, Master. Good price for salt dragged far from desert. Have a taste if you would like, Master!"
Franziskus Ninetails stretches his little finger out and smiles "Already had a taste. Klima is well known for his high quality of salt!"
Josh: "Salt is good for food, and for torturing prisoners too. Of course, not for torturing prisoners from Tabor... only for other places..."
Franziskus Ninetails frowns a bit... the price not bad for this region, but he keeps his pokerface. He scratches his head "Hmmmm...... a copper tarsk per barrel?" He shakes his head like a sleen and speaks slowly as if not sure "Weeeelllll... I don't know... hmmmmm..... What if I take 10 barrels? Do I get it cheaper?"
Josh: "10 barrels? Yes, Master, lets see now... " He goes through the scroll in his head... tries to remember instructions, just a slave so has to check instruction scroll... 'Hey, there a 10 for 8 deal on Master, 10 for the price of 8, special for Tabor Market!" He counts on his fingers.
Franziskus Ninetails from the corner of his eyes watches cautiously the hooded man near him. His hand rests on his pouch firmly. As he hears Josh's price he does some maths in his head and nods "Hmmm.. that sounds better. What if I take... hmmm... .100?"
Josh: "Argggg, Master, I didnt bring that many!!! It was just me on caravan route, and just me working almost to death in salt mine to mine this stuff. But I can tell Master Merchant if you are interested in big shipment. He can whip more slaves to death to get the salt out for you"
Franziskus Ninetails smiles understanding "Oh well... how many DID you bring then?"
Josh: "Lemme count, Master" He counts, then: "We got 28 left, Master. I can deliver them to you if you want to."
Franziskus Ninetails nods "Good... then lets say... 20? How much per barrel if I take 20?"
Josh: "Aye, Master, 20 at 20 per cent off.... so that's.... ermm... 80 Tarsks bits each, Master. You drive hard bargain, Master!", he says, admiring customer prowess.
Franziskus Ninetails frowns "Didn't you just say, 8 for for 10? So... there won't be a difference, if I take 10 or 20?"
The baker standing next to them: "What price for the rest so you don't have to haul all that heavy, heavy salt back home?"
Josh: "Well, how about 70 each then, Master? Great end of day special!". He checks the scroll and thinks he can get away with this and not be beaten half to death for low price.
Franziskus Ninetails nods "That sounds better. But I have a good day... so... I'll give you 15 KT for the 20 barrels. Don't want a nice boy like you be whipped for bringing less coins home then expected!"
Josh: "Whew! Thank you, Master!"
Franziskus Ninetails: "AND... I'll give you some of the cherry candy my boys made"
Josh: "Whoah!! Candy too! Thank you, Master!" He picks up the salt and loads it for the master.
Franziskus Ninetails takes his pouch and starts to count the coins on the board of the marketstall.
Josh opens eyes wide as the master takes out coins. He wipes his brow relieved to be coming home with some bons. He smiles very gratefuly to the master for the sale, and for the candy too.
Franziskus Ninetails places three cherry candies to the coins for the long way home.
The baker waits for the deal to complete.
Josh pops a candy in his mouth and keeps on loading. He loads more and more of salt lightening the burden for trip home to desert. He hefts 2 more salts, one after the other, sweating but not as much as in hot desert mine. He looks at the master , thinks he must be wealthy man to have so many coins for market day. He cheers as last salt is loaded.
[Took so long to buy 20 barrels one after the other]
Josh: "Thank you, Master, for buying salt"
Franziskus Ninetails smiles as the slave puts it all over to the cart "My boys will carry it later home."
Josh: "If you need more salt or iron ore, Klima can supply"
Franziskus Ninetails rubs his belly "Hmmm, shopping made me hungry. Where do I find something to eat?"
Josh: "Theres some bread over there, Master"
The baker: "Boy, how much salt do you have left and at what price? And what else do you have to offer?"
Josh: "Master, I only have a few salts left, but there are more I can get very soon if you would like. - Let me count... 8 salts left, Master"
The baker nods.....

Meanwhile Franziskus Ninetails: "Bread? Hmmm..... ". He looks around for the baker and for the butcher. "I'd be in the mood for an urt on a stick. But I don't think they have a delicacy like that here?" He looks around and raises his voice asking "Who's the baker?"
Alex: "I don't think the butcher is here, Master, haven't seen him. My Master buys supplies, but I can help you." He waits to see what the Master wanted to buy.
Franziskus Ninetails smiles down to the long haired boy "You are the baker's slave? Hmmm... I think I saw you the other day in the taverne"
Alex: "Yes, I'm the baker's slave, Master"
Franziskus Ninetails looks at the offered goods and point to the one on the top "Is that chocolate cookies?"
Alex: "Yes, it is, Master"
Franziskus Ninetails: "Hmmm, how much are they?"
Alex looks over to the baker who's still at the stall with the salt: "How much for the cookies my master?"
The baker: "10 TS"
Alex: "10 TS for cookies"
Franziskus Ninetails smiles "Oh, that's cheap. They are fresh, aren't they?`"
Alex: "Yes, they are"
The baker now coming over: "A sample cookie for you, sir!"
Franziskus Ninetails takes the cookie from the man and smiles "Ah, you are the baker then? Thank you!"
Alex: "My Master is the one to price them"
Franziskus Ninetails bites into the cookie and chews it slowly, then nods "Mmmmmm..... very well. Of course..." He swallows and smiles ".... it would be even better if you use the 'Torpical Gold' for it!"
Franziskus Ninetails: "Well, pack 10 of it, I'll bring some to my boys too, to taste the cookies"
Alex grabs a paper bag and puts ten cookies in it then hands it to the Master "Here you go Master."
Franziskus Ninetails to the baker: "I'd be glad to visit you to negotiate about cacao-pouder, Baker!"
The baker: "It's too early to tell. I need to see how much I sell each week"
Franziskus Ninetails takes one of the cookies he just bought from the pack and starts to eat it. He points with the half cookie to Daneil "Isn''t that Daneil over there? I have to talk to him!"
River blinks as he hears his master's voice.
River: "My master!"
Josh: "Brother River, I havent seen you in a long time!"
River: "Greetings, brother"
Alex: "Greetings"
Franziskus Ninetails pats his boy's head "I bought some salt. Josh put it on the wagon already, mine"
River: "Yes, my master"
Franziskus Ninetails reaches the package with the cookies to his boy "Here! Take a cookie, my lil sunshine!"
The baker to Franzi: "Thank you for your purchase! Safe paths! Alex, I need to see to an errand again, I'll be back soon"
Franziskus Ninetails looks down to his boy "Do we have some samples left of the Tropical Gold, my lil sunshine?"
River: "I think so, my master. Let me check"
Franziskus Ninetails: "You could give the baker one to test it with the chocolate cookies"
River: "I have four tropical gold samples left, my master". He nibbles his cookie happily, now his stomach feels better he is hungry.
Franziskus Ninetails nods to his slave "Give one to...." - he looks at the long haired slave "... what's your name, baker's slave?"
River mumbles "fank u mu mafter,"
Alex: "They call me alex"
Franziskus Ninetails nods and turns to his boy again "... give a sample to Alex, so his Master can test his next cookies with our Tropical Gold"
River smiles and hands the boy a sample.
Alex: "Thank you. I'm sure he will apreciate it"
River whispers: "It makes nice milk"
Franziskus Ninetails: "Do we have bread at home, mine?"
River "I think we could do with some, my master. I haven't baked in a few days as i have been harvesting."
Franziskus Ninetails searches in his pouch and reaches two copper tarsk to his boy "Buy some bread and a pie, mine. I have to talk to Daneil now!"
River: "Yes, my master"
Franziskus Ninetails as he is searching for the coins finds another candy sticking to his finger. He holds it to Alex' lips "Uhm... here.. for you"
Alex: "Thank you, master"
River examines the bread deciding which his master would prefer. He sees the pie. "hmmmm pie...". He drools.
Franziskus Ninetails sneaks up behind Daneil and slaps his shoulder, surprising him "Daneil! Greetings to you"
Daneil: "Greetings"
Franziskus Ninetails: "I heard you are growing sul and sa-tarna, is that right?"
Daneil: "Yes"
Franziskus Ninetails notices Chance in the crowd and winks to him before he turns his attention back to Daneil: " Do you have a brewer too? For some reason my stocks of sa-tarna and sul-paga are emptying.. uhm.. .mysteriously all the time."
River hands the boy the coins and carries the bread and pie over to his master.
Franziskus Ninetails: "I would order some barrels... but I don't know, if you brew yourself or sell your grains and suls to a brewer?"
Daneil: "I just grow and sell"
River puts the bread and pie with the rest of his belongings and picks up his lute again, really wishing his brother was there as he prefers to dance than play.
Daneil: "I don't know a brewer"
Franziskus Ninetails scratches his head "Well, to whom do you sell then? Only to the baker?"
Daneil: "Who ever wants to buy"
River starts to play his lute again hoping to bring customers to his master's stall.
Franziskus Ninetails shrugs and leaves "Well then... I'll find one. Thank you anyways"
Daneil: "No problem"
[Okay... no idea about THAT convo....]

Franziskus Ninetails turns to the next marketstall, noticing Mike again "Ah, Tal again, Mike. Your fingers are better from cutting all the olives?" As he doesn't get an answer he frowns "Hmmm, boy must have fallen asleep..."
River: "My master, I put it with the rest of our stuff"
Franziskus Ninetails nods over his shoulder to his slave, then takes the bottle of Kalana-wine from the next marketstall and smells at it "Mmm, rich smell... warm... "
Franziskus Ninetails mumbles "Who's the vintner of this wine?" and reads the label
Chance hears Franzi and grins over "It is Master Will"
Franziskus Ninetails: "Hmmm, Will Galuptra... " He looks around then down to Chance "And where is he? I want to buy two or three bottles"
Franziskus Ninetails: "I still got stocks from Kalana Fjord, but it's.. hmmm... well, wine for... common people. This one looks... a bit more precious.. for my private use"
Chance looks to him "Master, I carry his pouch for putting coins in. He walked back to his house for a moment"
Franziskus Ninetails reads the price "Hmmm... 25 copper bits? That's... not expensive at all"
River places more bags of blackwine on display smiling to himself.
Chance looks at him intently "Master, it is very good wine!"
Franziskus Ninetails places a copper tarsk on the counter and grabs four bottles, looking around for his boy to hand them to him
River notices his master looking for him and quickly finishes filling more bags and runs to join him.
River: "Forgive me, my master, I was restocking"
Chance grins at River "Good sales today, brother?"
River: "Aye brother, sold all the tabor soft only two bags left"
River sees the master finish with josh and runs over to see if he can attract him to his stall.
Chance snickers.
River: "Samples! Free samples!" To Bearded: "Master try my master's samples?"
Chance waves to Rowan "Bazi for sale here, brother"
River: "The finest blackwine in tabor!"
Bearded of Tabor looks around trying to find some wines and hears chance.
River: "Free samples!"
Bearded of Tabor: "Bazi tea?"
Franziskus Ninetails: "Tal, Scribe"
Bearded of Tabor: "Tal Franzi.... It looks like you have a good market here today again"
River makes himself look busy, making sure that the store is tidy.
Bearded of Tabor spies some grapes.
Franziskus Ninetails smiles "Not mine, but..." - He looks over his shoulder with a warm smile at his slave, then turns his attentiong back to Bearded "... my boy seems to enjoy it"
Bearded of Tabor sighs realising the crate is empty.
Bearded of Tabor: "The boys do seem to enjoy the market... I am not sure if this is where chance gets some of his candies..."
Chance: "Master, I have beetles for sale!" perks up.
Franziskus Ninetails shouts over to Mike "VISIT US THE NEXT DAYS, MIKE. WE'D NEED SUGAR SOON!"
Mike shouts back: "Yes, master!"
Franziskus Ninetails mumbles "That slave seems to work too hard. He seems so tired"
River louder "SAMPLES! FREE SAMPLES OF THE FINEST BLACK WINE IN TABOR!" Chance: "Whose slave is he, master?"
Franziskus Ninetails: "Mike? He's Dragonlord's, I think"
River puts his lute on the ground and picks up his flute.
Bearded of Tabor buys some wine and some BAzi tea.
Josh in a distance: "How much is the blackwine, brother?"
River: "We have a special offer, brother"
Franziskus Ninetails: "Well, I have to see how my boy is doing... Excuse me!" ((talking of blackwine.. I need coffee....))
River points to the board "3.60 KT for a pack of 12 portions. Special offer for today"
River plays his flute softly .. losing himself in the music as he always does.
Josh sees sign about cacao powder and forgets blackwine.
River kicks a bag of tropical gold to josh seeing him looking at it with eager eyes, he winks as he plays.
Franziskus Ninetails rests a bit on the barrels on the cart, listening to his slave playing the lute and humming some melody to it.
Josh sees cacaobeans..."ermmm... brother... Food is so boring in desert. I think baker... if we had a baker, would love some cacaopowder". He thinks of cookies iliek the one he had a ilttle while ago.
Josh looks to cacaopower. "Master, may I be allowed to get some cacaopowder for Klima?"
River picks up his finger cymbles and then begins to dance to the sound.
Franziskus Ninetails smiles at the desert-boy "Do you have bosks in your oasis?"
Bearded of Tabor watches the boy dance in the corner.
Josh: "Aye, Master, we do. They aren't very happy but they are there"
Franziskus Ninetails nods "You can put some pouder into milk. Delicious!"
River moves his body to the sound of the bells, enticing the master's to watch him.
Josh: "Oh, yes. Sounds great Master! May I go ahead and get some now, to take back to desert?"
Franziskus Ninetails: "How much cacaopouder do we have left mine?", he asks his dancing boy, trying to catch his attention
Josh as he finds the sample River kicked to him: "Oh, thank you, brother. I didn't see you handing me that"
River smiles.
Josh: "I'm a little dazed from all the business"
River wriggles his cute behind as he dances ... his lips moisted by his tongue.
Josh looks to River: "Brother, was that the 3 copper bag?"
Franziskus Ninetails as his slave doesn't answer him, slaps his butt as he walks by to take a look himself.
River eeps.
Josh: "Rrrivvvveeerrrrr!"
River: "Aye, brother"
Josh: "thanks, brother"
River: "But that was a free sample for you"
Josh: "Oh, I was going to pay from klima sales, brother"
River: "For three coins you get a bag of ten portions"
River: "Oh no, brother.. that was for your master"
Franziskus Ninetails frowns as he opens the empty crate, looks to Josh with a sad face "Sorry, it seems it's all sold out"
Josh: "Oh, thank you, brother." He looks to see if he has something for River's Master too...
Josh whispers to River: "Does your Master like cherry candy, River?"
River: "Brother, if your master wishes to place an order, I can get it to you for tomorrow."
Josh: "I wish I knew where to find my Master to ask him!"
Josh hands his supply of cherry candy to River for his Master and for River too, thanking them for great day."
River looks to his master.
Franziskus Ninetails frowns as he sees Josh handing the cherry candies he just gave him a while ago now offers to River. "You don't like cherry candies, boy?"
Josh: "Oh no!". He blushes deeply. "I thought it was some I had from before"
River: "Oh, thank you, brother", he says accepting the candy, "I will share with my brother if I might"
Josh smacks red: "Master, I love the candy, thats why it was such a good gift to give to thank you for today... oh, well, I will find something somehow to show appreciation"
Franziskus Ninetails grins "Endy made a lot of them. He made it all himself!", smiling proudly.
River stops dancing and kneels before his master.
Franziskus Ninetails: "Maybe we should make more and sell them to the baker?", looks over his shoulder to the baker's boy.
Josh: "Time to get back to desert now"
River's face flushed and his blood coursing through his veins with excitement.
Franziskus Ninetails: "Before the cherries we brought from Kalana get bad"
River: "Yes, my master. I went serching for a bee hive so we could have some honey, master, but I couldnt find one."
Josh packs up cart and empty sacks, and also cacao powder
Franziskus Ninetails nods to Josh "Safe paths. It's a long way you have back, Josh"
Josh: "Safe paths, Master"
River: "Safe paths, brother, it was good to see you again"
Josh: "Aye, but I can stop along the way too"
Franziskus Ninetails: "Tell your Master, I'm always buying salt, when the price is good"
Josh: "Good to see you too, River, hope to see you soon. Safe paths, Masters. Be well, brothers"
River: "Should I load the wagon, my master?" He begins to gather up his master's goods and puts them on the wagon along with his master's purchases for the day.
Franziskus Ninetails: "Well, it's getting dark, my lil sunshine. Time to get back home"
Franziskus Ninetails smiles at Will "Ah, Tal, Will. Didn't see you. I bought some bottles of your wine. Looking forward to taste it. I see you are tasting the chocolate cookies. They are fine, but I think they will be even better with our newest cacao breed 'Tropical gold'!"
Will nods to Chance "Yes, see to it, boy." Then looks to Franzi and smiles to the man: "Greetings, Franzi! Thank you! I did get some of your blackwine and cocoa as well, I am hoping mine will learn to cook with the cocoa"
Franziskus Ninetails: "I hope the baker comes to order some"
Franziskus Ninetails smiles "If nothing else helps... chocolate milk is easy to make"
Will glances at the baker's boy, "I haven't met this new baker, but surely he will have need"
Will chuckles looking to River, "That one suggested that as well... I favor the wine more than the sweets in my drink, but some cookies around the house would be welcome"
Franziskus Ninetails: "Did you ever try to brew paga and sul-paga besides making wine, Will? I shortly talked to Daneil who grows the grains and suls, but he didn't know a brewer... I had brought stome stocks from the north where I lived, but mysteriously it was all sold out at night"
Will looks thoughtful and shakes his head, "No, I keep mine busy enough as it is I think... but I may lend Daneil the use of one to get the process started... I don't know if our brewer has been tending her shop or not lately", glancing to Chance with a raised brow.
Franziskus Ninetails nods "Well, if you hear of a brewer, let me know, please"
Will nods to him, "I will... perhaps we might go and see the matter with these others or see what is developing with it"
Chance pulls the wagon to the stall and begins to carefull load the bottles, stuffing hay between them to prevent breakage.
Franziskus Ninetails: "Well, it's getting dark. We should take our way back. Be well and safe paths, Will"
Will smiles warmly, "Safe paths to you and yours Franzi"
Chance: "Safe paths, master!"
Franziskus Ninetails nods to Chance with a smile and secretely tosses him a a cherry candy on his the wagon as he passes by.
River "Safe paths, master", he river says softly, and hurries after his master, pulling the wagon behind him.
Chance grins and snatches the candy up "Thank you!"
Franziskus Ninetails helps his boy lifting the whole cart into the boat, then tosses some copper bits to the ferryman to bring them quickly over to the tropics.
River: "Thank you, my master. We had a good day, my master"
[Taking the ferry back to the tropics]

Our House

So, it's time to show some pictures of our house. The last weeks been so busy again. I don't have the time to continue with all my planned projects for my store. And that although the new possibility of making megaprims makes my heart bounce!

Well, the building of the house and furnishing it (not ready yet) kept me busy. And after that was done, I got busy with the "suggestions for the NLS pricing." And the growing amount of Meeroos (I think it's about 40 now or more...) keeps us busy too. But things are calming down now and we're looking forward to RP again.

So, here's our house - a mix of roman "Villa Rustica" and mexican hacienda with a touch of Gor:

some suggestions about the NLS pricing and economy

                                     1 Introduction
                                    =========

Talking about a reasonable pricing of NLS goods is rather difficult. One reason for this is, that the NLS currency doesn't follow the BTB-currency. Originally in Gor there are Copper Tarsk Bits, Copper Tarsks, Silver Tarsks, Gold Tarns and Double Gold Tarns.

8 Copper Tarsk bits = 1 Copper Tarsk
100 Copper Tarsk = 1 Silver Tarsk
10 Silver Tarsk = 1 Gold Tarn
2 Gold Tarn = 1 double Gold Tarn

It's mentioned in the books that you'd get a good meal and drinks in a taverne for about 3-5 Copper Tarsks. Compared to nowadays Earth prices that would be in a middle-class diner something between 10-20 U$ for a meal including drinks.

Now the NLS uses another pricing/relation:

100 Copper Tarsk bits ("Tarnstücke" TS) = 1 Copper Tarsks ("Kupfertarsk" KT)
100 Copper Tarsks = 1 Silver Tarsk (ST)
100 Silver Tarsk = 1 Gold Tarn

The question is: How to relate this to a currency on earth like the U$, to get an idea of what would be worth what?

With this question we meet another problem: John Norman as usual wasn't consequent and logical. Like the price for a several day sea-passage would be the same (1 Silver Tarsk) as the price for the ferry to cross the Laurius River. And two boys in Tor get just for dragging in customers  to a taverne 1 Copper Tarsk, while in another book it is mentioned, that a low caste worker earns maybe 1-3 copper tarsks per day. And you pay for a coin girl only a copper bit. - So, the boys earn for 1 customer 1 copper tarsk, can go and fuck 8-10 coin girls, which come back to their Master with maybe 1-2 copper tarsks per day, who pays then about 5 copper tarks to feed them, not talking of the price he might have paid for the purchase? - One time he mentions you'd get as much paga as you can drink PLUS the all inclusive "service" of the paga slave for 1 Copper Tarsk, another time he throws a whole Silver Tarsk (100 times more!) on the counter of a taverne just for a bottle of paga. So, John Normal is just not logical and not a big help.

With these problems - the difference between NLS / BTB currency and the  inconsequence of John Norman's novels - best would be to just look how common NLS goods are, the effort to harvest or to prdouce them, the region where it grows etc.

                                    2.1 Raw-Materials (Intro)
                                ================

For the raw-materials you always have to consider WHERE they'd grow and WHO would harvest them. The prices are for traders and producers. A producer sells to a trader, a trader sells it on the market or to bakers, tavernkeepers, blacksmiths etc. Those work on it and sell it to the customer. Each of them wants to make profit of course. However a baker could as well buy a raw material directly from the producer. If you RP it, that's fine... But always keep in mind: The NLS is there to encourage and enhance your RP possibilities; it's not meant to cheat.

So, the prices are suggestions. It always depends who's selling to whom and in what amounts.

Example Blackwine-Beans: A farmer in the tropics grows Black Wine Beans. He sells a sack with 100 beans to a trader. Because of the high amount (especially after a lot of fun haggling RP) he'd sell it for 10 TS per bean. And the trader would travel and sell it elsewhere. --- Now if the farmer goes to the market himself (RP) and sells his beans there single, he might get up to 20 TS per bean. If he travels north (although it won't be realistic, that he does so), he could sell them for even more.

Now lets follow this example: The trader paid 10 KT (100 x 10 TS) for it. He pays a miller/grindner 2 KT for grinding it to pouder. 2 beans = 1 pouder. So he gets back 50 sacks of pouder. He travels north (RP!!!) to sell the pouder for 80 TS per sack. So he'll get 40 KT. His profit would be 28 KT.

Of course as it is SL the farmer could grow it, grind it himself, quickly teleport to the north, sell it there for 20 TS per sack of pouder and makes bigger profit. Or even worse: You are a slave in the north and grow black wine in your backyard, offering it for free right everywhere.
But is that really what you want? You  defraud yourself and others of the chance of much fun-RP.

So, following comes a list with raw-materials and a picture with price-suggestions. They are only suggestions... recommendations... depending on the amount, the situation, the region, the HAGGLING etc.  In the list for better overview green background shows, where's a product growing, red where not.

->Baziteeblaetter (Bazitea-Leaves): Would normally grow in the region of Bazi. A tropical plant. Strangely in the NLS it is NOT tropical, but moderate. Until this isn't changed, unfortunately it would have to be more expensive in the tropes, subpolar and desert.
->Cacaobean: Only grows in tropical regions. Can be sold as bean or as ->Cacaopowder
->Blackwinebohne (Blackwine Beans): BTB only available in Thentis and valuable as gold. A bowl of blackwine would cost according to the books a Silver Tarn. However the NLS doesn't regard this, so it's available in all tropical regions. Should be expensive in other regions.  ->Blackwine Pulver

Fire:
->Boskdung: Prolly wouldn't be sold in his pure form (although some people can make money even with shit..), so here's only listed the DRIED Version ->Trockener Boskdung. Other then Woodlogs you have double work: 1. Collecting it, 2. Dry it.
->Holzscheite (woodlogs): If not available publicly, then woodmakers could sell them for about 1-2 TS. They are mentioned in the books, cutting wood in the forests, carrying them to the cities. In the desert and in some regions (high mountains, high north etc.) it could be even up to 5 TS per log.  However in the desert -> Boskdung would be more common for making fire.

Animals:
->Boskkadaver (Bosk Corpse)
->toter Fisch (Fish)
->Verr
->Vulo
->Tabuk
->Tarsk

It is difficult to say something about pricing here. Normally it would be hunters, farmers or butchers only who hunt or slaughter those animals. In SL however almost everyone can quickly kill an animal standing in the backyard. A price-suggestion makes only sense, if the SIM owner is insightful enough to restrict the production of these animals to single people like farmers, butchers, hunters... and if the residents are reasonable enough to accept this and RP with it.
More intersting for trade are the random products like:

->Tabukhorn
->Wolle (Wool)
->Leder (Leather)

As the north is supposed to be rich in animals (big herds of tabuk moving North in summer etc) those might be especially trading-products for the Northern people.
_______________________
Corn, Fruits & Vegies:

All these should be restricted to farmers who sell it to traders or brewers or directly on the market.

->Dattel (Dates): A desert product. In the books there it's even used as currency. So very common in the desert, more expensive as farer away from the desert.
->Ka-la-na Trauben (Ka-la-na Grapes)
->Karotte (Carots)
->Kuerbis (Pumpkin) Growing moderate and tropical.
->Larma
->Schwarze Olive (Olive): Getting 5 of it by cutting ->Olivenzweig
->Rambeere (Ramberry)
->Rence
->Sa-Tarna Korn
->Sul
->Torian Cherry
->Tospit
->Zuckerrohr
_________________________
Flowers:
The flowers used by Healers for their pouders. Propably should be collected or grown and harvested by Healers only or by "herb-women" and sold to physicians. And therefore should be considered rarer than other fruits, corn or vegetables.

->Lavinia Flowers
->Maringold
->Sunflower Leaves
->Sip Wurzel (Sip Root)
->Teslik Pflanze (Teslik Plant)
_______________________
Animal Products:

Farmers products. Depending on your region (more rural or a city?) cheap to little expensive.

->Honig (Honey): Another problem where the NLS doesn't follow the books. The drink of the Northmen is ->Mead. Mead is made of honey! So you'd expect honey a product of the North, but it isn't. It's restricted to moderate and tropical regions. Hopefully as with ->Baziteeblätter this might change one day. Following the system to sell products more expensive the farer away it is from the production place, it would have to be expensive in the north. But to keep the production of ->Mead there cheaper, we recommend to offer it cheap in the northern countries.
->Milchschale (Milkbowl): ->Butter ->Cheese
->Vulo Ei (Vulo Egg)

_________________________
Mining Products:

Those are mainly in the desert. It's considered that it is hard to gather by slaves in the mines (and - as with all the other products - not to just be picked up by EVERYONE on the sidewalks)

->Metallerz (Iron Ore) ->Eisenbarren (Iron bar)
->Salzkorn (Salt rock) ->Salzfass
_______________________
Others:

->Wasserschale (Waterbowl)
In most regions Water would be free, just fetched from a well. So the price would be 0 TS. However in desert regions there could be watertraders (like they are mentioned in the books), selling bowls for maybe 1-5 TS.

                                             2.3 First Generation
                                            ============

Let's call those products which are made from raw material "First Generation". Some of it can be used directly, others are the foundation for other products or use.

Following our pattern, the price for a first Generation product is put together from the min.-max. price of the raw materials PLUS the profit for the effort to use the fusionators.

Pouders, Grinding

To produce pouders from products normally would be work of grindners and millers, which would get paid for their service. Unfortunately not many people want to RP those professions/castes. The medical pouders would be done by Healers, but could also be assumed as trading-product to be sold to Healers. - So the work would mostly be done by slaves.

->Blackwine Pulver 2x ->Blackwine Beans
->Cacaopowder Grinding 2x ->Cacaobeans

->Lavinia Flowers Pulver 1x ->Lavinia Flower
->Maringold Pulver 1x ->Maringold
->Sunflower pouder 1x ->Sunflowerblaetter

->Mehl (Flour) 5x ->Sa-Tarna Korn
->Salzfass (Salt) 2x ->Salzkorn
->Zuckerfass (Sugar) 2x ->Zuckerrohr

Alcoholic Drinks

Would be the work of a brewer. Same problem here: Not enough brewers available... - However it's a difference, if it is sold on the market by a trader or the price in a tavern. Here are listed prices for the market. Under "Tavern, Bakers, Meals & Co" you will find suggestions for the products in taverns, which will be 10-20 TS more then on the market.

->Ka-la-na Kelch (Ka-la-na Goblet) 5x ->Ka-la-na Traube
->Mead 5x ->Honig + 3x ->Wasserschale
->Paga (Sa-Tarna Paga) 5x ->Sa-tarna Korn + 2x ->Wasserschale
->Rence Beer 5x ->Rence + 3x ->Wasserschale
->Sul-Paga 2x ->Sul + 1x ->Wasserschale
_____________________
Other Products

->Butter 5x ->Milchschale
->Käselaib (Cheesewheel) 15x ->Milchschale (gives out FOUR pieces of cheese)

->Eisenbarren (Iron Bars) 2x ->Metallerz

->Spiritus (Spirit) 5x ->Sul + 1x ->Wasserschale

                                    2.4 Taverne, Bakers, Meals & Co
                                    =====================

Additionally to certain products "First Generation" from the market (-> Alcoholic Drinks) there will be some products which would not be offered on a market, but ONLY in a tavern or at the bakery, the candymaker, the butcher etc.
It is to consider, that the production results in several pieces of a good or 1 resulting product gives out several pieces, like making candy results in 10 candies, or ONE jug of black wine gives out  FOUR bowls of black wine. Therefor we added in the list a "divisor". [Not sure if the divisor is always right. I got different information about it. But thanks to everyone who helped to get the list together!]

Alcoholic Drinks:

The prices in a taverne would be of course higher than on the market. The prices you pay in a restaurant are higher than in a supermarket. To follow the pattern we list again those products from the "First Generation" which would be available also in a tavern + 10 TS for the profit of the tavernkeeper.

->Ka-la-na Kelch (Ka-la-na Goblet)
->Mead
->Paga (Sa-Tarna Paga)
->Rence Beer
->Sul-Paga

Other:

(simple to produce, so only added 10 TS to the price of the single ingredients)

->Kuerbissuppe (Pumpkin Soup) 1x ->Kuerbis + 2x ->Wasserschale + 1x ->Salzfass
->Karotteneintopf (Carrot Stew) 3x ->Karotte + 3x ->Sul + 2x ->Wasserschale + 1x ->Salzfass => 2 bowls Karotteneintopf

->Vulo Spiegelei (Fried Egg) 3x ->Vulo Ei

_____________________

Wouldn't it be interesting as tavern-keeper (or his slave) to put together a nice menu? Something like "Pumpkin Soup followed by Tarsk roast with sul and carrots and bread. Followed by cheese and fruits. With a goblet of ka-la-na wine. Today only 4 KT!"

Example #1: A low caste man eats in a middle-class taverne in a moderate region (average prices)

1 Sul Soup                           150/2       = 75
1 Piece of Bread                      120/6    = 20
1 Piece of Cheese                  120/4    =  30
1 Bowl of Water                                         0
1 Rence Beer                                           85
1 Bosk Steak                          300/4   =  75
1 Sul                                                        15
1 Piece of Ramberry Pie        440/4    = 110
                                                           _______

                                                           410 TS

That's 4 Copper Tarsks, 10 Copper Bits. Which is about the prices mentioned in the books (to get a dinner in a taverne for between 3 and 5 Copper Tarsks).

                                         2.5 TOOLS
                                        =======

The Blacksmith is one of the most important Castes in the NLS, as he makes the tools that help others to have better success with harvesting and production.
For pricing we take the single ingredients + the profit for the blacksmith for his effort. This profit depends on the outcome, as there are 3 different classes for each tool.

class 1 = +20 TS
class 2 = +40 TS
class 3 = +60 TS

->Axe 1x ->Holzscheit + 2x->Eisenbarren
->Fruitpicker 2x ->Wolle + 2x ->Holzscheit + 1x ->Eisenbarren
->Hornshovel 1x ->Holzscheit + 1x ->Tabukhorn
->Pickaxe 1x ->Holzscheit + 2x ->Eisenbarren
->Scissors 1x ->Eisenbarren
->Scythe 3x->Holzscheit + 2x ->Eisenbarren + 1x ->Leder
->Shovel 1x ->Holzscheit + 1x ->Eisenbarren
->Smoker 1x ->Holzscheit + 2x ->Leder +2x->Eisenbarren

                                                 2.6 HEALERS
                                                =========

The Healer is another important Caste in the NLS. They can make diagnosis and they prepare the medicine (which should be ONLY available from Healers or Shamanes). Their income as High Caste is supposed to be high, their service supposed to be expensive, and also the medicine. On the other side not too high, so that also a low caste RPer can afford their service.

For the preparation of their medicine we calculated 1 KT (=100 TS), as they also need (expensive) spirit for their destilleries.

Of course they would also charge for their service like slave-exams, shots with the serum etc. We recommend something between 1-3 KT (100-300 TS).

->Lavinia Flowers Saft 4x ->Lavinia Flowers Pulver
->Maringold Saft 4x ->Maringold Pulver
->Sunflower Leaves Saft 4x ->Sunflower Pulver
->Sklavenwein (Slavewine) 2x->Sip Wurzel + 2x ->Wasserschale
->Brutwein (Breeding Wine) 2x ->Teslik-Pflanze + 2x ->Wasserschale + 1x ->Zuckerfass

__________________________________________________________

So, if you are interested in a reasonable and "realistic" use of the NLS, feel free to use these lists as a little guidance.

And always keep in mind:
It's not Monopoly! You do NOT have to prove how fast and quick you can fill your stocks or how much money you can earn or how "multitalented" you are.  It's not a competition - it's a TOGETHER! And the true winners are NOT those who camp their AV on spawners or fusionators, but those who roleplay, haggle, trade, interact and have fun!

And always feel free to join our group "NLS - Gold knows no Caste"

Warning

The next post
will be
totally
boring
and of
no interest at all
for anybody
who isn't involved
with the NLS.

(And prolly for half of those who ARE also)
